Presently, while rumors may be spreading from popular blogs such as AppleInsider, I don’t suspect it’s much of a threat to Flash yet. Currently, Gianduia is entirely JavaScript based. Qualcomm has just issued a press release announcing the commercial availability of their Gobi 4000 chips for 4G LTE and HSPA+ capable devices, a variant of which could very well ship in a next-generation LTE-capable iPad. In August we discovered Apple had possibly begun field testing a next-gen LTE iPads with LTE code floating around the iOS builds, and it’s likely Apple would go with Qualcomm’s chip, as almost every 3G iOS device since the Verizon iPhone has used their Gobi platform, the exception being the the AT&T iPad which uses an older Infineon chip....

Apple is looking to continue expansion of Apple Maps with new indoor location mapping features for 2017, such as airport and museum navigation, according to a new Bloomberg story. The company is also working on new turn-by-turn features, including improved directions to switch lanes whilst driving. Perhaps most interestingly, the report says Apple plans to deploy a fleet of flying drones to help with data collection efforts for Apple Maps. The drones would be able to analyze street signs, track the status of roadworks and more....

[UPDATE: Uber has confirmed the news…] It was reported Friday night that Apple Music exec Bozoma Saint John was planning to leave the company one year after her widely praised on stage debut at WWDC 2016. Saint John drove Apple Music’s marketing effort after joining the company through Apple’s Beats acquisition. Now TechCrunch reports that Bozoma Saint John’s next role will be at Uber… Bozoma Saint John’s LinkedIn still lists her position at Apple as current and does not yet mention the reported move to Uber, and the move hasn’t been publicized outside of press reports so far....

Apple will unify its cloud service teams to improve product development and software quality, according to a new report by Bloomberg. Currently, employees that develop Internet services like Siri, Maps, iCloud, News and Apple Pay are housed in many different buildings mostly outside of the main Infinite Loop campus. To improve collaboration and speed up product development, Apple will be moving all the relevant teams into the Infinite Loop buildings. This ultimately leads to a better services division, which is the leading source of revenue growth for the company....

The sixth-generation iPhone is pegged to include a longer 4-inch design and rock a 640-by-1,136 resolution, redesigned nano-SIM card slot, LTE connectivity, larger battery, NFC, and 9-pin connector. Up until now the iWork suite of apps– Keynote, Numbers, and Pages– have arguably been the go to productivity apps on iOS and the counterpart to Microsoft Office’s dominance on OS X and Windows PCs....

A new report from Opensignal today takes a look at mobile network experiences around the world and ranked 87 countries based on average download and upload speeds, 4G availability, video experience, and latency. While the US performed well for 4G availability, it fell short of many countries for the other metrics. The study notes that South Korea was the only country to have higher than 50 Mbps average mobile network download speeds....

Yesterday, I reviewed PowerSkin’s Spare, a semi-protective battery case designed specifically for the iPhone 6. While Spare didn’t strike me as a great value for its asking price, PowerSkin also sells a more powerful alternative called PoP’n 3 that can work with multiple iPhones, including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and earlier iPhone 5 models. And despite having nearly twice as much power as Spare — enough power to fully recharge any iPhone — it sells for only $50-$55, depending on the color you prefer....

Riot Games’ lawyers are defending the company’s proposed $10 million settlement in a discrimination case. Following reporting on the lawsuit, the League of Legends developer sent Screen Rant a copy of a recent court filing contesting a California state agency’s allegation that Riot’s $10 million proposed settlement is inadequate. Riot Games recently proposed a $10 million settlement with the women, whose class-action lawsuit arose from a culture of discrimination and harassment at the company....
