Security researcher Andreas Kurtz has discovered that versions of iOS 7, including iOS 7.1.1 (the current release), iOS 7.1, and iOS 7.0.4 do not encrypt email attachments in the bundled Mail application. This is an issue itself, but more worrisome as iOS, according to Apple, is supposed to encrypt email attachments. Reuters has some big news about future generations of the Apple Watch: according to people familiar with Apple’s plans, the device will eventually get more health-releated sensors. Which generation we can expect to see these sensors or what types of data they’ll collect wasn’t exactly specified, but the company is definitely planning to include additional capabilities in future upgrades. Of course, this isn’t exactly the most shocking or unexpected news. It would be hard to believe that Apple had hired a group of fitness experts only to give up on improving the headline fitness features in the wearable device after the first version hit the market, and the company is still adding new sensors to the iPhone seven years after it first debuted....

Belkin’s three latest products in its Wemo line of Wi-Fi connected, smartphone-controlled products for the home include a white bulb starter kit, a versatile strip light, and garden lights for outdoor use. The last two are both tunable to thousands of colors and all three connect to Belkin’s Wemo ecosystem and companion app for remote control from your iPhone. DigiTimes is claiming that Apple will cease production of the non-Retina version of the 13-inch MacBook Pro this year as it prepares to launch refreshed Retina models toward the end of the year. DigiTimes doesn’t have the best of track records, to put it politely, but this particular rumor doesn’t seem too unlikely: Apple discontinued the 15-inch version of the classic MBP last October, and there is only $100 difference between the Retina and non-Retina 13-inch models, making the decision an easy one for most people....

The US Federal Trade Commission was due to reach a preliminary ruling in the Qualcomm antitrust case, where the chipmaker is accused of monopolistic behavior in respect of its smartphone radio chips. Digital Music News is once again reporting that Apple is contemplating removing iTunes downloads for good, focusing solely on its Apple Music streaming service for distribution. Reading between the lines, it sounds like Apple is open to multiple scenarios depending on future market conditions, which could include ditching traditional music download model. A new report out this afternoon from CNBC describes how Apple gets third-parties to sell more of its products, sometimes at subsidized prices.
