The pandemic saw a record spend on apps last year, and App Annie reports that this has continued into the first quarter of this year. According to a recent report from Adweek, Apple is in the process of streamlining its global marketing efforts. The report explains that Apple has restructured its relationship with ad agency TBWA\Media Arts Lab to put a stronger emphasis on digital and regional campaigns rather than “big brand campaigns” for the global market. In a statement to Adweek, a spokesperson for TBWA\Media Arts Lab explained that the agency was shifting its efforts to a new operating model that helps it “keep pace with the way people consume media and content....

Just earlier today, Tim Cook talked up Apple’s health products, saying the company focuses on a lot more than just profit. Now, CNBC reports Apple is working with Stanford and American Well to test using Apple Watch to detect heart problems… The report explains Apple is working with a group of clinicians at Stanford, as well as telemedicine company American Well, on the project. Apple wants to use Apple Watch’s heart rate sensor to detect abnormal heart rhythms....

Earlier this year, Twitter announced that it was planning to move away from the strict 140-character limit for tweets. While the overall idea would remain the same, things like media attachments and @ usernames would no longer count towards the limit. Now, The Verge reports that Twitter is set to rollout the change next week. According to the report, Twitter will stop counting @ usernames, media attachments, and quoted tweets towards the 140-character limit....

New data out today about retail store closures in the US shows that “experiential” tenants like Apple and Tesla aren’t driving consumer traffic to malls like landlords expect. As reported by CNBC, analytics firm Thasos says that foot traffic at US malls has been dropping since last August, except for a small uptick during the holidays. Meanwhile, data from Coresight shows that almost 6,000 retail stores have closed so far in 2019, more than the amount during all of 2018....

On the hardware side of things, as promised, I’ve swapped out the original whip antenna for a much larger 1090MHz antenna. While the antenna is technically designed for the top of a pole, I’m not planning on drilling holes in my roof, so it’s instead duct-taped to the inside of a window at the back of my home, facing roughly north. An impressive new deepfake video features an unexpected scenario: Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. starring in Back to the Future. Robert Pattinson still doesn’t think Batman is a superhero. The former Twilight-star-turned-Gotham-leading-man made waves in October when he commented on how the character, who he will be playing in 2021’s The Batman, and his moral complexity disqualify Batman from being a full-blown superhero. Since then, Pattinson has stood by that assertion, and more recently took a far more confusing stance on the issue. It’s no secret that Batman serves as one of DC Comics’ darker protagonists, in sharp contrast to the more clean-cut heroes Superman, Wonder Woman, and The Flash....
