Apple has allegedly seen some notable progress recently with its AR headset and Apple Glasses efforts. A new report from The Information says that the company’s semitransparent lenses, one of the most important components of the upcoming wearable devices have passed the prototyping stage and moved into trial production. Additionally, the report includes new details on the thickness of the lenses, integrated technology, and more. The report is careful to note that the lenses are for Apple’s upcoming “AR devices” meaning it’s unclear if they will be for the AR headset that’s expected to launch first (likely in 2022) or the eventual AR Apple Glasses that could arrive by 2023....

Jawbone, the company behind once popular fitness trackers, is liquidating its assets and shutting down, according to reports from Business Insider and The Information. The death of Jawbone is the latest in the wearable market thanks in large part to increased competition from Apple. The company reportedly stopped producing its fitness trackers last year and stopped selling them in September of 2016. Jawbone sold remaining inventory to “a third-party reseller at a reduced price” to get a much-needed cash influx....

A new report from CNBC today shares that J.P. Morgan has cut its financial estimates for iPhone suppliers as demand for Apple’s smartphone is said to be declining. The revised performance projections for Apple suppliers comes from J.P. Morgan analyst Bill Peterson as forecasts for iPhone sales for Apple’s Q2 and Q3 2018 (calendar Q1 and Q2) have been reduced. This echoes what we heard from Apple chip supplier TSMC last week as it said it expects high-end smartphone shipments to decrease this year....

Audio accessory maker Sol Republic is today launching its first product in the cord-free headphone space, the ‘Amps Air’ wireless earbuds. The launch would have been timed with the now delayed release of Apple’s own similar wireless AirPods that were previously expected to launch late this month and possibly following the company’s Mac event today. Apple released a last minute statement yesterday informing customers it needs more time to get the product right before shipping....

A study published by the Worker Info Exchange (WIE), a campaign group advocating workers’ rights to the data held on them by employers, warned that gig workers were being subjected to unfair profiling and discrimination by automated systems that aimed to “maintain exploitative power” over them. The report, titled Managed by Bots: Data-Driven Exploitation in the Gig Economy,found that gig workers were routinely denied access to personal data held on them by companies that use machine-learning tools to allocate work and manage employees....

Another new report has corroborated that Apple has a mini-LED MacBook Pro refresh coming sooner rather than later. Over the weekend, Bloomberg posted an exclusive report of Pegatron’s iPhone plant in China. Although Foxconn is Apple’s primary assembler, Apple has moved more of its iPhone assembly contracts to Pegatron in recent years to diversify its supply chain. The Bloomberg report describes how the factory is managing its workforce, tracking hours via automated systems, and tackling labor issues like overtime. This is the first time Pegatron has allowed official press to photograph the insides of the factory, where 50,000 people work on the floor....

According to a new report Chinese news organization Nikkei, Apple is currently planning to introduce the first iPhone with an OLED display in 2017. In the past, it has been rumored that Apple was aiming to use OLED technology by 2018 or 2019, but today’s report claims that Apple is ahead of schedule and plans to ship an OLED iPhone next year. Apple reportedly started reaching out to display providers Samsung and LG last December to get a timeframe on increasing OLED display production and to see if it would be possible to reach production levels high enough to ship an OLED iPhone by 2017, which Reuters reported at the time....

Economic Daily News is reporting that Apple suppliers have begun hiring en-masse this month as they prepare for assembly of Apple’s upcoming flagship iPhone, the iPhone 7. The new iPhones (coming in 4.7 inch and 5.5 inch sizes) are expected to debut in the fall, following tradition. The report comes via CNBC. Interestingly, the report notes that the surge in hiring at Foxconn and Pegatron is happening earlier than usual (‘at least a month earlier’)....
