The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Trump administration is discussing with chip manufacturers including TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor) and Intel about the possibility of building fabrication plants in the United States. TSMC manufacturers the core system-on-a-chip silicon that Apple relies on for its iOS devices (and soon Macs too). The upcoming A14 chip that will debut in the iPhone 12 will be built on a 5 nanometer process. This manufacturing currently happens in China, but the US government is campaigning these companies to start domestic chip production....

The Rage 2 ending leaves room for a sequel while also resolving the main plot from the game and its 2011 predecessor. Rage 2 has a straightforward story which leaves little room for plot twists or deep characterization. Each new year of Rainbow Six Siege typically adds 8 new operators compared to this year’s six. The Season Pass also typically gives players 600 credits that can be spent however they see fit. In November, the agency announced that by the summer of this year, taxpayers will need to have an ID.me account in order to access certain IRS online resources. The federal health minister Greg Hunt is being called to impose Covid-19 testing standards for the struggling travel industry before the resumption of interstate and international flights. The National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) began a public awareness campaign on Monday, asking the Commonwealth, airlines, and travel agencies to avoid rogue laboratories. When the FBI was still demanding Apple’s help to access a work iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino killers, security firm Trail of Bits wrote a blog post claiming that the phone could be accessed without Apple’s assistance. A Cambridge University researcher has now successfully demonstrated that the method proposed would have worked. Essentially, it argued that you could bypass the passcode time-outs by overwriting the firmware between attempts....

According to research by Microsoft, addressing the threat posed by ransomware is the number one cybersecurity challenge currently facing CISOs, closely followed by configuring cloud security and protecting hybrid, multi-platform enterprise environments. Ransomware was the most significant cybersecurity issue during 2021 and, according to the survey, CISOs don’t think that’s going to change any time soon, as cyber criminals continue attempts to encrypt networks and demand a ransom payment – which can be millions of dollars – for the decryption key....
