I previously reviewed the first two Apple authorized game controllers to hit the market under Apple’s new Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod touch program from Logitech and Moga. Both used Apple’s form-fitting design that docks an iPhone or iPod touch directly into the controller via a Lightning connector. However, Apple’s program also allows another breed of standalone controllers that connect over Bluetooth and therefore also work with iPad and Mac. Unveiled at CES, this week I’ve put one of the first Bluetooth, non-form-fitting designs to the test with the new Stratus wireless controller from SteelSeries....

For all the time WWE has had a brand extension, part of the fun has always been when wrestlers jump between shows, whether as a surprise or as part of a scheduled event. While nothing will ever be as captivating for fans as when stars from the WWF, WCW, and ECW hopped between promotions in the 1990s, the brand extension allows WWE to at least create a sense of division between the rosters that makes it (at least in theory) special when somebody crosses over....

Qualcomm reported its fiscal Q2 2020 earnings today, announcing revenue of $5.21 billion and earnings-per-share of $0.88. Both of those numbers are above Wall Street expectations, but Qualcomm also predicted a forthcoming 30% drop in handset shipments. As reported by CNBC, Qualcomm’s earnings press release indicated that its fiscal Q3 2020 guidance is based on a 30% reduction in handset shipments, based on the “rate of economic recovery” in China:...

If you were wondering whether the long-running battle between Apple and Qualcomm was going to continue to grow in intensity or be quietly settled, it looks like we now have an answer. Qualcomm has dramatically upped the ante in its latest court filing, now accusing Apple of stealing its source code and giving it – and other trade secrets – to rival chipmaker Intel … CNBC reports the news with a pun even I would hesitate to use....

Qualcomm has substantially cut both revenue and profit forecasts as it revealed that Apple has ceased all royalty payments to the company pending the outcome of lawsuits between the two companies … Qualcomm’s general counsel Don Rosenberg described the move as a ‘global attack’ by Apple, seemingly referring to the fact that Apple suppliers are already withholding royalty payments Reuters reports that Qualcomm’s stock price fell on the news. Apple originally sued Qualcomm, claiming that it had been charging royalty fees for technology it didn’t own, and that it had been over-charging for tech that it did, as Tim Cook recently explained....

Core members of the Rainbow Six Siege development team, including the creators, are moving on from the popular shooter to spearhead a new project at Ubisoft. There’s no denying how important Rainbow Six Siege has been for the publisher, with the game continuing to grow year-over-year thanks to a post-launch roadmap. The game was even up for an award at 2019’s The Game Awards, which it ultimately lost out on, but the fact that it was mentioned as one of the best ongoing games of 2019 speaks volumes for the support it still recieves....

Bloomberg points at an RBC Daily story which claims that Apple could begin selling iPhone 5 in Russia this November, “almost immediately” after sales begin in the US. The Russian newspaper’s story is sourced from unnamed handset retailers. Bloomberg notes: So, the Russians likely won’t be getting their hands on iPhone 5 the same day as their American counterparts. On a brighter note, it took the country three months last time to get iPhone 4 so this would be an improvement (Hope Russian President gets his iPhone unlocked this time) It is interesting that Apple is allegedly prepping to open its first Russian store inside the trade gallery of the reconstructed Hotel Moskva, near Kremlin, in late 2011....

One of the most useful new features in macOS Catalina is something called Sidecar, which turns your iPad into an external display for your Mac. A Redditor has taken things to the next level, using a MacBook Pro with a broken display and turning it into a unique Mac/iPad hybrid using Sidecar. Adding to the iPhone 7 news today, analysts at Nomura Securities (via Barron’s) say Sony could be behind schedule for supplies of the dual camera systems necessary for the upcoming iPhones, causing Apple to turn to LG for at least some of the order: Last month Sony issued a press release detailing damage and delays at its facilities due to the earthquakes in Kumamoto. At the time it was unclear if the facility, which manufactured mostly image sensors not unlike those supplied for the iPhone, would have any impact on orders related to Apple’s upcoming devices....
