The 2nd Generation Apple pencil is different a lot from the original. Now every iPad beside the entry-level series supports the 2nd generation pencil. This Pencil rests on the side of the iPad model and charges when connected in that manner. It uses a magnet to connect to the sides of the device and, through wireless charging, charges itself automatically. That is, the Pencil requires the right side of the iPad....
The report says that their are 10 bidders in total looking to buy Toshiba’s NAND unit, though specific price points aren’t clear at this point. According to a separate report from Nikkei, however, U.S. equity form Silver Lake and chipmaker Broadcom offered 2 trillion yen, or $18 billion, for the business. That would mark a monumental acquisition for Apple at that price. It had previously been reported that Apple suppliers TSMC and Foxconn were teaming up to acquire Toshiba’s NAND business, but today’s report marks the first we’ve heard about Apple itself working acquire it....
Update: EA said in a statement that it’s investigating the reports (via TheVerge): According to a report from internet security and research company Netcraft, hackers have compromised an EA Games server and are currently using it to host a phishing site that steals Apple IDs and more from unsuspecting users. The company published its report today and says it contacted EA yesterday to report the discovery, but as of publishing the compromised server and the phishing site stealing Apple IDs were still online....
A new report today from The Information details a change coming with iOS 13 that will force WhatsApp and others to redesign their messaging apps. The small but notable change has to do with how third-party apps use iOS to make internet voice calls with the PushKit VoIP API and also run in the background which will be restricted come this fall. Apple has been under pressure in recent months to restrict what access third-party apps can have to a user’s iPhone and data....

While the press has not received any invites to an Apple media event, AllThingsD writer John Paczkowski is claiming today that the invite-only iPad mini event is still scheduled for this month. The one standout feature of the Microsoft Surface Tablet in our eyes was the keyboard cover. But is it that great? No one outside Redmond knows because Microsoft did not let anyone touch it at the press event. But, if you can handle a paltry extra 4mm of thickness with the addition of real keys, an iPad aluminum-matched protective cover, and a built in stand, Logitech already has Microsoft beat in my eyes....

The strategy game Rome: Total War – Alexander, already available for iPad, is now out for iPhone and Android. It promises that the iPhone version will ‘deliver the full experience of the desktop version’… The game hit the App Store on October 24. The original windows version of Rome: Total War was developed by Creative Assembly and became one of the most successful PC games of all time. Feral Interactive ported it to iPad back in 2017 as a full version and is now bringing it to the iPhone....
