Most of the report echoes what we’ve heard several times in the past– Apple is apparently talking with HBO, Disney, MTV and others about a new TV service. According to Quartz, it could include a pay TV service that would see Apple “essentially becoming a cable company itself,” as well as the release of a “full-fledged television set”:...

While Apple has notably been engaged in a back-and-forth poaching war with electric vehicle maker Tesla in recent months, a new report from The Korea Times claims that Apple has also been targeting “experts in next-generation technology” from Samsung Electronics. Citing an anonymous official from Samsung, the report highlights that the iPhone maker has a history of picking off chip experts from the Korean company using competitive compensation and “greater independence” as engineers....

News about Apple Car is back, with a new report suggesting Apple is in early-stage talks with two major Chinese battery makers. According to a report by Reuters, the Cupertino company is looking for a supply of batteries for its planned electric vehicle. Apple is allegedly talking to China’s CATL, which supplies major carmakers including Tesla, and BYD. According to the report, Apple is including a condition for potential battery suppliers: build manufacturing facilities in the US, said two of the sources....

Back in late 2010, Google brought Google Goggles (not to be confused with Google Glass) to the Google Search app for iPhone. At the time, it seemed like a great feature. Since its launch a couple of months ago, I have been using the Twelve South GhostStand as a stand for my MacBook Pro. Rejected twice for being too similar to Apple’s “Find My Friends” app, a new app from developer IZE called “Find My Facebook Friends” is now live on the App Store. New data out today from CIRP takes a look at smartphone sales in the US during Q1 2019. According to the firm’s most recent study, iPhone outsold Samsung, LG, and Motorola to be the most popular smartphone in the US. CIRP looked at smartphone activations in the US during Q1 and found that iPhone slightly outpaced Samsung devices to be the most popular smartphone. That 36% share put Apple above its Q1 2018 results, but is still notably lower than what CIRP saw for iPhone share in 2016 and 2017 during same period....
