Queer Eye season 2 episode 4 gave viewers a major twist ending. Queer Eye is a reboot of the 2003 series of the same name and follows the Fab Five, consisting of culture expert Karamo, designer Bobby, cook Antoni, stylist Tan and grossing specialist Jonathan as they help give people a total makeover. This extends beyond new clothes and redesigning their house, with the show also giving a focus to positive self-image and tackling issues that might be holding them back either personally or professionally.

The Queer Eye reboot has been acclaimed since it debuted on Netflix in 2018. The show has run for four seasons so far, while four-part special We’re in Japan! arrived in late 2019. The show has been renewed for an upcoming fifth season too, and the popularity of Queer Eye seems to grow all the time. That’s partly because it’s both warm and funny, but also because it’s uplifting to see the impact the Fab Five can have on the people they meet.

Queer Eye season 2 episode 4 “The Handyman Can” found the Fab Five helping Jason, a handyman from Atlanta who is getting ready to move to Reno to be closer to his beloved Burning Man event. Jason is ready for a major change in life even though his friends, including Beth who nominated him, want him to stay. The structure of the episode is classic Queer Eye, including giving the bohemian handyman a major style and grooming makeover and helping him shift years of random crap that’s piled up in his home.

What quickly strikes the Fab Five is that it feels drastic for Jason to uproot his entire life in Atlanta for the sake of an event that lasts a week and that he’s oblivious to how much his friends love him. This includes Beth, whose feelings quite clearly go beyond friendship. Queer Eye season 2 episode 4 gets to the core of Jason’s desire not to be tied to anything, as he has an inbuilt fear of structure and failure. The episode ends with his friends throwing a goodbye party for Jason, where Beth gives an emotional speech about his leaving.

Queer Eye season 2 episode 4 then ends on a rare big twist, which revealed that Jason stayed in Atlanta and scrapped his Reno plans, and had begun a relationship with Beth. It wasn’t an ending anybody predicted - including the Fab Five - but it’s hard to think of a better outcome.
